Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIMA) is uniquely poised to offer a week’s module called ‘Doing Business in India and Looking at Innovation and Some Growth Sectors’ which provides a blend of classroom-based learning as well as immersive learning experiences, designed to equip the students from other cultures and geographies to understand processes, trends, economic relations and policy changes in the Indian and international business environment, while providing insights into Indian business environment and culture.


Objective:
This program is intended to help participants from universities across the globe to gain a comprehensive understanding of what it takes to flourish in India. Beyond the Classroom:

1. Industrial Visits
Industry visit to the fifth largest city of India, Ahmedabad will be very beneficial for the students who want to understand the role of state government in endorsing industrialization. In Ahmedabad you can find numerous industries like the private power manufacturer, textile manufacturer, automobile manufacturers, pharmaceutical manufacturers etc. The city is a centre for Chemical and Pharmaceutical industries. Two of the biggest pharmaceutical companies of India— Zydus Cadila and Torrent Pharmaceuticals are based in the city. The Nirma group of industries, which runs a large number of detergent and chemical industrial units, has its corporate headquarters in the city. In addition to this many foreign companies also have set up their sales offices and production facilities in Ahmedabad, including: Bosch Rexroth, Rollepaal and Johnson Pumps of Sweden etc.

2. Interaction with Industry Leaders and Students at IIMA
Corporate leaders visit the IIMA campus throughout the year to give guest lectures covering varied topics in all functional domains. These lectures can serve as a valuable means of interaction between students and the practitioners to gain knowledge, real life insights & draw inspiration from the leaders.

3. Cultural Visits and Outings
Located on the banks of the Sabarmati River, Ahmedabad is the city that thrives with its rich heritage. The city has witnessed such rich artistic era, that the city speaks of its tale through its stories, rituals, traditions, art and architecture. Professor Sunil Sharma

Sunil Sharma is Associate Professor of Strategic Management at the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad. Professor Sharma’s specialization is in strategy formulation under uncertainty, innovation management, and organizational capabilities. As a member of the Business Policy Area, he teaches courses on strategy, consulting, and innovation.

His research interests are in the areas of organization capabilities, strategic decision making, strategy implementation, management consulting, and strategic innovation. Professor Sunil Sharma has earned a Fellow (Ph.D) in Business Policy from the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad, and Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering from UP Technical University.



Professor Arvind Sahay

Arvind Sahay is Professor of Marketing and International Business, Professor MN Vora Chair in Marketing and Entrepreneurship and Head, India Gold Policy Centre at Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad. Professor Sahay’s areas of interest include marketing strategy, pricing, high tech marketing, international trade and investment, strategic management, brand management, neuroscience, consumer behaviour and decision making, valuation, Doing Business in India and sales and distribution management.

In addition to being an outstanding teacher, researcher and consultant with extensive experience in industry as a manager and as a consultant and corporate trainer, Professor Sahay have held leadership positions in academia as Dean (Alumni & External Relations) (2013-16) and Chairperson (PGPX) (2007-09). Also he is appointed as Head, India Gold Policy Centre at IIMA from March 2016. Starting October 2016, Professor Sahay is also the Chair, Asia Pacific Region of Partnership in Management (PIM), a consortium of 63 top business schools from around the world. Recently he is also appointed as the Professor MN Vora Chair in Marketing and Entrepreneurship.Professor Arvind Sahay has earned Ph.D in Marketing Strategy & International Business from The University of Texas at Austin, a Post Graduate Diploma in Management from IIM Ahmedabad and Bachelors in Chemical Engineering from IIT Kanpur. He has been a visiting faculty at the Mason School of at the College of William and Mary (USA), University of Texas at Austin (USA), IIM Lucknow, Asian Institute of Technology, (Vietnam), Gordon Institute of Business Science, University of Pretoria (South Africa), SP Jain Institute of Management Research (Singapore, Dubai), Retail Alliance (Dubai) and Indian School of Business, Hyderabad.
