The International Module at the COPPEAD Graduate School of Business

The international module at COPPEAD will address the issues and opportunities of fast developing countries. Growth, innovation, flexibility, social inclusion and fast change are key issues for global businesses in the country. Participants will get, in a very short period, an overview of Brazilian Environment. The Economical, Financial, Political, Social and Technological aspects of the country will be discussed with our professors and invited top managers and top government officials. Afternoon visits will be used to illustrate the issues and bring context to the analysis. During the stay in Rio each day will be dedicated to a key topic for those interested in doing business in Brazil.

COPPEADs professors will coordinate each topic and invite top managers, entrepreneurs and state secretaries to provide multiple perspectives to the participants. At the end of the module the participants will better understand the country and its characteristics, be able to recognize key trends and uncertainties of the Brazilian environment and identify business opportunities.

Program Overview and Objectives

The international module at COPPEAD will address the issues and opportunities of fast developing countries. Audience

This program is designed for managers who want to understand Brazil and how to do business in a democratic BRIC country with a unique social, cultural and economical landscape.

Methodology

Participant-Centered Learning Analysis of Brazilian Social, Economic and Cultural Environment; based on Pre-readings, Business Cases Discussions, Group works and Company Visits.

Fabio Guido Ulderico Ancarani
Roberta Campos

Roberta Campos is Professor in Marketing and Consumer Behavior for the Institute of Business Administration Coppead / UFRJ. PhD and MsC in Business Administration at COPPEAD / UFRJ and in Social Sciences at Paris Descartes / Sorbonne. Marketing experience in multinationals like Unilever, Coca-Cola and SCJ / Johnson Wax. Researcher at the Center for Studies in Consumption - COPPEAD / UFRJ, since 2005. Researches low-income consumers since since 2009.



Adriana Garibaldi de Hilal

Adriana Garibaldi de Hilal was born in Argentina, got her PhD from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro and did a post doctoral research in International Business at Tilburg University. She is a Professor of International Business at COPPEAD, researching and teaching in MBA, PhD and Executive MBA courses. She has published several articles in international periodicals and books. Adriana is COPPEADs Vice Dean of International Relations.




Roberto Nogueira

Roberto Nogueira is Globo Professor of Strategy, Organizations and Information Systems of COPPEAD GSB. He coordinates the Executive MBA program and the Research Center on Strategy and New Media. He also taught in other graduate programs: Global Partners MBA (with Georgia State University and IAE Sorbonne), Building Ventures in Latin America (Harvard Business School, University of S?o Paulo and Insper), MBA - University of San Diego, MBA - Audencia-Nantes. Roberto consulted for several organizations in the area of Strategy and Business Innovation: Globo Corporation, Receita Federal do Brasil (Brazils Internal Revenue System), ACCOR Group (in Brazil, Mexico and Argentina), the State Government of Santa Catarina, Bahia, São Paulo and several other Brazilian states. He graduated in Economy and Information Systems at the Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro, got a MBA from COPPEAD and a PhD from the University of São Paulo.



Carlos Heitor Campani

Carlos Heitor Campani holds a Ph.D. degree from EDHEC Business School (France) and a M.Sc. degree from COPPEAD Graduate School of Business (Brazil), both in Finance. He completed in 2014 a Post-Doc position at Princeton University (USA). He is currently Professor of Finance at COPPEAD Graduate School of Business, from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro and a Research Associate of EDHEC-Risk Institute (France). His research interests are in areas such as optimal portfolio and consumption strategies, asset pricing, project valuation, derivatives and risk analysis, real options, empirical finance, personal & family finance, and Brazilian private pension plans.
Carlos Heitor is currently the chief editor of the international journal Latin American Business Review, published by Taylor & Francis. He has taught for several international institutions such as EDHEC Business School in France, London, and Singapore, the International University of Monaco and Pittsburgh University.




Marco Rodrigues 

Marco Rodrigues holds a M.Sc. from COPPEAD Graduate School of Business at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (Brazil) in Strategy. He was part of the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania’s MBA Exchange Class in 2009. He has a degree in Social Communication from Rio de Janeiro’s Federal University. Marco Rodrigues is a Business Consultant, providing services for Brazilian companies like InfoGlobo, Proteste and Globosat. Additionally, he is a PhD student and a Research Associate at Coppead’s Center for the Study of Innovation and Strategy, publishing articles in areas such as Marketing, Strategy and Innovation and presenting his studies in conferences in Brazil and abroad. He is also the current EMBA Consortium Adjunct Coordinator for Coppead.



Danilo Moura

Danilo Moura is a Public Policy Evaluator for the Rio de Janeiro Municipality, with special focus on World Bank Projects. Previously worked for the Americas Society/Council of the Americas and the Defense and Security Program of the Transparency International. He got his MSc in Public Administration from Columbia University and a BSc in International Relations from the University of São Paulo.



Roberto Schaeffer

Dr. Roberto Schaeffer teaches and conducts research in the Energy Planning Program of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, where he holds an Associate Professor position in Energy Economics. He holds a Ph.D. in Energy Management and Policy from the University of Pennsylvania, a M.S. in Energy Planning from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, and a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from the Federal University of Parana, in Brazil. His interests are energy efficiency, renewable energy and global climate change. Previously to his current position, he was a Visiting Professor at the Center for Energy and the Environment, and a Lecturer at the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. In 2008 he accepted a Chair of Visiting Professor in Brazilian studies in Canada, lecturing in five different Canadian universities with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade of Canada.




Duperron Ribeiro
Duperron Ribeiro

is Founder and CEO of PhDSoft, an innovative Software and Service company in 4D Computer Aided Design. A former Navy Ofcer, he holds a BSc in Naval Architect from the University of São Paulo, an MSc in Ocean Engineering from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro and an Executive MBA from Coppead. He has taught in the Naval Engineering at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro.



Maíra Machado

Maíra Saruê Machado is the Research Director of Instituto Locomotiva. She holds a master’s degree in Sociology and a bachelor’s degree in Social Science from Universidade de São Paulo (USP). In over 15 years of experience as a researcher, she conducted market, social and academic studies with the most different scopes and objectives, using qualitative and quantitative methodologies. Prior to Locomotiva, she was a Research Director at Data Popular, focused on emerging markets, and her previous professional experience was as a Research Manager at Ipsos Public Affairs.



Paula Chimenti

Paula Chimenti is a Professor of Strategy, Organizations and Information Systems at COPPEAD/UFRJ. She is the Vice Dean for the Full-Time MBA at COPPEAD and was responsible for designing and coordinating Executive MBA programs at this Institution. Dr Chimenti holds a PhD from COPPEAD and a Masters in Business Administration and specialization in Marketing from PUC-Rio, whence she graduated in Social Communication. Chimenti has over 10 years of professional experience in companies in different sectors, where she has had the opportunity to work in marketing and communication. She has also served as a consultant to public and private organizations in the area of strategy and innovation processes.
